POIs may not approve an MEL that contains any of these phrases: 1) “May be inoperative provided procedures do not require its use.” 2) “May be inoperative or missing if alternate procedures are established and used.” 3) “May be inoperative unless required by 14 CFR.” 4) “As required by 14 CFR.”
B. Must Be Specific. An operator’s MEL must contain specific procedures, requirements, and conditions that apply when a particular item is inoperative. PIs must verify that each MEL contains enough information to adequately and safely address operations with the item inoperative. See Examples on Page 19 thru 22 8900.1 Vol. 4 Ch. 4 Sec 3 |
